While translating Opencast 6.0, translators reported a number of problems considering the source language (en-US). As changes to the source language will invalidate all existing translations for the corresponding translation keys, those changes should be avoided on release branches, so this issue is targeting Opencast 7.0.
VIDEO_TOOL -> TRACKS -> VIDEO -> TOOLTIPS -> HIDE
This string and the next one are the same, except for "enable/disable". However, one of them ends with a "." while the other does not. They both should be the same (either with or without the dot).
VIDEO_TOOL -> THUMBNAIL -> DESCRIPTION
The punctuation and general writing is not the best. What about:
A default thumbnail (used to visually represent the event) is generated automatically. If you want to use a different thumbnail, you can extract one from the video at the current playback position or upload an image.
The clarification "used to visually represent the event" can be surrounded by commas, parentheses or dashes. Parentheses are my personal favourite, but natives may find the other options better.
BULK_ACTIONS -> DELETE_EVENTS_WARNING_LINE2
Emtpy strings should not show up here
NOTIFICATIONS -> EVENTS_NOT_DELETED_NOT_AUTHORIZED
I think this is not the best way to express that. Firstly, we should avoid using contractions (don't) --most software does. Secondly, it sounds too informal, too "wordy". I'd say "You do not have permission to delete this event". It's more compact, it conveys the same meaning and sounds more neutral. What do you guys think?
NOTIFICATIONS -> LOCATION_NOT_DELETED_NOT_AUTHORIZED
May I suggest a more compact text without a contraction ("don't")?
You do not have permission to delete the OR this location
RECORDINGS -> RECORDINGS -> DETAILS -> GENERAL -> URL
>> "has to be shorter than the duration".
"duration" is typically shorter/longer, not smaller/larger.
